Wedding FAQ
How far out do I need to reserve my date?

We book weddings up to one year in advance. A non-refundable $150 deposit will be collected upon booking your wedding date. Wedding season typically starts April through May and begins again in September through November. These months book quickly and we suggest booking as soon as you have decided to use us for your wedding cake.

Do we deliver?

Anything 4 tier and above we recommend having McLain’s deliver. There is a $60 minimum delivery fee for custom wedding cakes and the delivery fee is calculated once the venue location has been confirmed. We deliver to the greater Kansas City area. We have limited delivery per weekend and it is first come first serve.

Anything 3 tier or below customers can come pick up. We recommend bringing a friend along to help.

How do I transport a cake?

If you are driving with a cake in the car, the cake should be placed on a flat surface where it wouldn’t easily slide. The AC should be on & shielded from direct sunlight, if applicable, especially in the warmer months. Drive carefully, avoiding hard brakes & potholes. The cake will need to be in a fully air conditioned room until it is served. Our cakes are primarily made of butter, sugar, and flour, so keep in mind that if a stick of butter would quickly melt in the current weather conditions, your cake would too.

I have a specific picture of a cake I want, can you make it?

We encourage, and often recommend providing us with photos of “inspiration”. However, cakes are works of art and many factors play into the final reveal of your cake. We want your cake to be an expression of you, your style and personality. Like you, no two cakes are alike.

I want a relatively small cake for the “photo op” at my wedding, do you do those?

Of course; and it is a great way to help with those pesky wedding budgets. We love to provide cakes that work for all styles and budgets. Our first suggestion would be to look at our Wedding Collection and seeing if those options would be a perfect fit for your wedding. Cupcakes, kitchen cakes, and mini cupcakes are a perfect addition for extra servings and a lower cost. This way, you can have your cake and eat it too!

Can you accommodate individuals with food allergies or other dietary restrictions?

All products are prepared in our stores in which nuts and other allergens are used. Cross contamination of allergens may occur.

Do you offer gluten free or vegan cakes?

We do offer gluten free options, but we do not offer vegan cakes at the moment. They are available for an additional charge and advance notice, they are not available in the case. Please note that cakes are not prepared in a gluten-free facility and are not certified gluten free or vegan.
