McLain’s started in Waldo and is one of Kansas City’s oldest bakeries. Since 1945 we’ve been a family-owned establishment baking fresh pastries, birthday and wedding cakes, bread, cookies, and desserts! We’ve been serving our loyal guests for over 75 years and take pride in being a space for Kansas Citians to gather and enjoy each other’s company.

Our baking team comes in before sunrise to ensure that all our pastries and loaves of bread are made fresh. Our classic butter rolls, cinnamon rolls, almond cheese pockets, and more! In addition to our classics, you might find a seasonal item or two.
We serve delicious breakfast and lunch options that will satisfy any appetite. Start your day with our famous (and spicy!) pepperjack burrito or a slice of housemade quiche. Come for lunch for our Chicken Bacon Sandwich or the Waldo Cobb Salad. And don’t forget to save room for a cookie–whether it’s a classic chocolate chip or our vegan maple doodle–it’ll be the perfect something sweet after your meal!
Our stores have full coffee bars and freshly roasted coffee from our sister company, Sway Coffee Roasters. Sway started with a long-time McLain’s team member roasting beans up the street from the Bakery in Waldo. Now, it’s a small team roasting, packing, and delivering coffee from a spot in Kansas City, KS. At their cafe, you can enjoy and experience freshly roasted coffee firsthand.
